Curriculum Overview

The Middle School SEL Curriculum is a customizable toolkit with strategies and resources for nurturing the skills students need to develop the personal and social awareness that enables them to understand differences of all kinds, make connections, and problem solve. Resources range from lesson plans, book lists with discussion questions, video links with discussion questions, and more.

Portal Features

  • Web-based: Access our portal on any browser, anywhere, anytime.

  • Interactive Planners: Easily organize, retrieve, share, and collaborate with others.

  • Gradebooks: Seamlessly keep track of student performance through our digital gradebooks. Gradebooks can also be downloaded as CSV files to easily integrate into other student tracking platforms. 

  • SEL Student Assessments: Assess student skills and understandings with premade and custom assessments. Assessments can be shared with students digitally and/or as printables. 

  • Integration: Integrate resources into digital student learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.) with fillable PDFs.

  • Designed for educator customization. 
  • A variety of comprehensive curriculum resources are available to engage all learning styles. Resources include but are not limited to: lesson plans, book discussions, videos with discussion questions, and more.
  • Annual updates to curriculum to ensure new resources are available at the start of each new school year. 
  • Standards-aligned: Social-emotional content is aligned with CASEL standards and disability awareness content is aligned with Common Core standards.

Our Planners allow you to drag and drop the content you choose to a customizable plan for your classroom. Easily add and remove days and content. Durations for the content are shown and are tallied by day for easy scheduling.

Why Social-Emotional Learning for Middle School Students?

Social-emotional learning, or SEL, is an essential component of every child’s growth. Once considered a “soft” skill set, SEL is now recognized as an integral factor in academic, career, and life success. SEL positions students for overall well-being and supports them in developing the resiliency, collaborative skills, and confidence needed to engage meaningfully in our increasingly diverse communities.

Self-Awareness

Recognizing one’s emotions, thoughts, and values. The ability to know your strengths and weaknesses and have self-confidence.

Self-Management

To control one’s emotions, thoughts and behaviors, manage stress and control impulses, and be self-motivated.

Social Awareness

The ability to relate to and empathize with others including those with backgrounds different than yours. The ability to understand and operate within ethical norms.

Relationship Skills

The ability to create and maintain healthy relationships including with those from different backgrounds. To communicate with others, listen, cooperate, and stand up to negative pressure. To work though conflict productively.

Responsible Decision-Making

The ability to make constructive and healthy choices about personal behavior and social interactions. To be aware of and responsive to potential consequences.
