Resource Library
Welcome to the Changing Perspectives Resource Library. This resource library is designed to provide educators with summaries and links to other publications and organizations for further reading about a range of topics related to social-emotional learning, differences, diversity, and education. Our hope is to curate resources that you can use for your own learning, share with colleagues and/or parents to support greater awareness, education and practical tools for improving student well-being.
Use the menu on the left to search resources by topic or audience (you may select more than one menu item at a time; search results will include resources that meet all your selected menu items). When selected, a menu item will be highlighted in blue. Click on a blue menu item to de-select it and remove it from your search criteria.
Resources on this page are updated monthly. If you know of a resource we should include, send it to us!
From UNICEF: “Understanding social norms and the role they play in influencing behaviours matters because it enables us to inform social and behaviour change interventions that go beyond individual-level activities and spark collective-level change.”
From Think:Kids: “If a kid is struggling with their behavior, it’s about skill, not will. After identifying the skills that a child like this struggles with, our job, as adults, as helpers in this child’s life, is to help them build those skills.”
From Edutopia: “Students may see ways they can effect change if they break down big issues like climate change into smaller, more accessible challenges.“
From Disability Scoop: “The career portal known as the Neurodiversity Career Connector debuted last week. It’s intended to connect neurodivergent job seekers with openings at companies including Microsoft, Google, Freddie Mac, and more.”
From Education Week: “One theme emerged from the analysis: states consistently fell short on collecting data to measure and disseminate the impact of their policies publicly.”
From Language Magazine: “For English learners to participate willingly in a lesson discussion intended to promote a critical SEL competency such as self-awareness, teachers need to offer more than a relevant bell-ringer prompt and quiet journaling time.”
From eSchool News: “SEL can be integrated into content classes, through intentional community building and purpose learning that makes schools more fun and supportive places for students to learn and teachers to teach.”
From K-12 Dive: “Understanding prosocial behaviors’ positive influences on teaching practices could support improved student outcomes, as well as help prevent teacher burnout and stem the tide of teacher shortages.”
From Edutopia: “A new book explores how school leaders can foster equity by building a culture where teachers and students see their purpose and experience success.”
From Inside SEL: “Often, the school environment plays a pivotal role in fostering children’s social and emotional development. However, in the COVID era, children are spending an increasing amount of time at home. So how can parents help foster SEL at home?”
From #PrincipalProject: “If we want to do right by our students, we have got to flip from a sickness-and-crisis model to a wellness model in our schools. This is the great challenge of our field – to proactively step up and build systems to step in before the crisis.”
From Greater Good Magazine: “Teens are developing a nuanced understanding of what respect means. Here are some ideas for cultivating more of it in the classroom.”
