Educators & Paraeducators

Changing Perspectives offers a variety of professional development training opportunities geared towards educators and paraeducators. Trainings are offered on-site and virtually. All trainings are tailored specifically to the audience we are working with. Learn more about some of our professional development training opportunities below.

Educators

On-Site

Full staff PD training (full or half-day)
Each training is customized to each particular school. Changing Perspectives training revolve around the  themes of SEL, equity, inclusion, and empathy education. Typically delivered in a workshop format, training is designed to provide educators with tools and specific strategies they can use in their classroom right away. Common topics include but are not limited to:

  • Empathy vs Sympathy
  • Unpacking Inclusion
  • What is Disability Awareness?
  • How to Talk with Students of Sensitive Topics, etc.
  • What is SEL and Why Is It Important?
  • SEL Embedded as Curriculum

Individual or small group coaching (up to 8 people)
Individual and small group coaching provide an opportunity for school personnel to receive in depth and individualized support from a Changing Perspectives coach. Meetings are typically 30 minutes-1 hour in length. Coaching sessions begin by establishing a clear measurable goal. Changing Perspectives coaches are trained and prepared to support educators in achieving the creation of more equitable and inclusive school experiences for all children.

Classroom visits — observations, co-teaching
Changing Perspectives staff is available to commit time on a daily or weekly basis at a given school site. During that time, Changing Perspectives staff is available to observe classrooms, co-teach lessons,  meet with teachers individually and provide written follow up notes to share observations and make suggestions. Our work is not limited to just classroom teachers, Changing Perspectives is poised to  meet with all educators in the school including but not limited to; classroom teachers, special educators, unified arts teachers (PE, music, art), OTs, PTs, SLPs etc. In order for the greatest impacts within a school community to be achieved all individuals must be working together in an intentional way towards a common goal (inclusion).

 

Virtual

Educator Professional Development Portal

  • Access to the professional development portal provides an opportunity for educators to engage in online training, connect and collaborate with an online community, and access a variety of resources to support the role that educators have in building equitable and inclusive learning environments for all students. One year subscription.
  • All Professional Development training offered on-site is condensed to less than two hours and made available virtually in either a webinar live format or prerecorded format.

Virtual coaching for individual or small groups of educators (30 mins-1 hour)
Changing Perspectives coaches are well versed in connecting with individual or small groups of educators in a digital world. Meetings are typically 30 minutes-1 hour in length. Coaching sessions begin by establishing a clear measurable goal. Changing Perspectives coaches are trained and prepared to support educators in achieving the creation of more equitable and inclusive school experiences for all children.

Paraeducators

On-Site

Paraeducator trainings (typically 1-2 hours)
Paraeducators are often the individuals in a school working most closely with students with the highest needs. However, it can be difficult to find time for Paraeducator trainings. Changing Perspectives paraeducator trainings are focused on providing paras with specific tools and intervention strategies in a short period of time. Trainings are all customizable to the audience but some standard para trainings are as follows:

  • Facilitating inclusive play
  • Empowering students with differences
  • What is SEL?
  • What is inclusion?

Individual or small group coaching
Meetings are typically 30 minutes- 1 hour in length. Coaching sessions begin by establishing a clear measurable goal. Changing Perspectives coaches are trained and prepared to support educators in achieving the creation of more equitable and inclusive school experiences for all children.

Onsite shadow observations and feedback report (half or full day)
During an onsite shadow experience Changing Perspectives will spend a half or full day shadowing a para. Following the shadow experience Changing Perspectives will provide written feedback to the paraeducator on areas of strengths as well as suggestions for improvement. As part of this program a short 15 minute pre observation conversation will occur to better establish the goals for the para. Following the report an additional 15-30minute conversation will be offered to discuss next steps.

 

Virtual

Virtual individual or small group coaching (30mins-1hr)
Changing Perspectives coaches are well versed in connecting with individual or small groups of paraeducators in a digital world. Meetings are typically 30 minutes- 1 hour in length. Coaching sessions begin by establishing a clear measurable goal. Changing Perspectives coaches are trained and prepared to support paraeducators in supporting the students that they work with in become greater self -advocates and leaders to transform school cultures to be more inclusive and equitable.

Paraeducator Professional Development Portal
Access to the professional development portal provides an opportunity for paraeducators to engage in online training, connect and collaborate with an online community, and access a variety of supporting resources to support the role that paraeducators have in building equitable and inclusive learning environments for all students. All Professional Development training offered in person is condensed to less than 1 hour and made available online in either a webinar live format or prerecorded format. One year subscription.
